Before we launched SHO Farm’s website here, we established Vermont Seaberry Company back in 2015 for the purpose of selling seaberries grown on our permaculture farm. We now have a limited number of hand-picked, fresh frozen berries from our polyculture orchard—beyond organic.
The berries we have for sale are a combination of seedling and named varieties. (It usually takes an hour for visitors to the farm to pick a pound, due to the presence of long thorns along the fruited branches).
We recommend blending the whole berries with water to shatter the seeds and release their proteins, the B-12 contained in many of their seed coatings, and the valuable seed oil and Vitamin E contained in them. We like to add about 1/3 cup of maple syrup per pound of berries when we blend, as the berries are very sour. Alternatively, we just blend them right into smoothies.
This article was just released showing the benefits of a strain of lactobacillus naturally present in seaberry that helps halt the expression of the coronavirus.
“A recent study is drawing the attention of the medical community, claiming that sea buckthorn berry’s lactic acid bacteria can contain the spread of the new coronavirus by inhibiting the activation of its energy source, purine.
“According to a research team at Ehwa Womans University Medical Center, it has confirmed probiotic bacteria extracted from sea buckthorn berry had lots of lactobacillus gasseri (L. gasseri), which represses the activation of purine, an energy source required for the mutation of new coronavirus.”
